DPR RI Clarifies Rejection of Asset Forfeiture Bill, Says It Is Still Being Drafted

The Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) has provided clarification regarding circulating reports that it rejected the discussion of the Asset Forfeiture Bill related to criminal acts. During a plenary session at the DPR RI building in Jakarta on Tuesday (14/7/2026), Deputy Speaker Sari Yuliati stated that the news on social media claiming the DPR RI rejected the bill was false. She confirmed that the Asset Forfeiture Bill is included in the priority national legislation programme for 2026. Sari explained that the bill is currently in the drafting stage at Commission III of the DPR RI and involves public participation. “Commission III is currently in the drafting stage by gathering input from the public in the context of meaningful participation from various circles such as the community, academics, practitioners, students, experts, institutions, and other related parties,” she said. The Asset Forfeiture Bill was first proposed in 2008 by the Indonesian Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (PPATK). After 17 years, the bill has yet to be enacted into law.
