DPR Reviews NTT Earthquake Impact, Ensures Rapid Victim Handling

Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Sari Yuliati, together with the DPR RI Post-Disaster Management Task Force (Galapana), directly inspected areas affected by the 7.7 magnitude earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). The inspection was carried out to ensure that victim handling and post-disaster recovery proceed quickly, accurately, and in a coordinated manner.

During the visit, the DPR RI Galapana Task Force observed the condition of affected communities and received reports from regional governments and relevant agencies regarding the emergency response measures that have been implemented.

Sari emphasised that the DPR wants to ensure all needs of affected communities are promptly met, from logistical assistance to health services and temporary housing.

“We want to ensure that all affected victims receive fast and adequate handling. Coordination between the central government, regional governments, BNPB, the Ministry of Social Affairs, and all relevant parties must run optimally so that community needs can be met immediately,” said Sari.

The DPR also requested certainty regarding aid distribution, including logistical support, health services, temporary housing, and social assistance distributed by the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) and the Ministry of Social Affairs.

According to Sari, the DPR’s presence at the disaster site is a form of the legislative institution’s commitment to ensuring the state is present in protecting and assisting communities affected by the disaster.

The meeting was also attended by Deputy Speaker of the DPR RI Saan Mustopa, Deputy Chairman of Commission XI of the DPR RI Bambang Hariyadi, Member of Commission II of the DPR RI Cindy Monica Salsabila, and Deputy Chairman of Commission X of the DPR RI Kurniasih Mufidayati.

Also present were the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK), the Head of BNPB, the Deputy Minister of Social Affairs, and the Regent of Manggarai. They presented the progress of disaster handling as well as the urgent needs of communities in the affected areas.

The DPR stated that it will continue to oversee post-disaster handling and rehabilitation until communities can safely resume their activities and living conditions gradually recover.
