DPR Reveals Mie Sedaap Has Pledged to Stop Laying Off Hundreds of Workers
Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) Sufmi Dasco Ahmad received representations from Mie Sedaap workers regarding reports of mass layoffs. Dasco said his office had coordinated with company management and requested that the policy be halted.
“The DPR has received representations from Mie Sedaap workers, and we have already coordinated with the Mie Sedaap management,” Dasco told reporters on Monday (23/2/2026).
Dasco said that following the audience, Mie Sedaap agreed not to proceed with the layoffs. He stressed that halting the dismissals was particularly important ahead of the Eid al-Fitr holiday.
“The outcome is that Mie Sedaap will immediately stop the ongoing layoffs, and the company has also pledged that there will be no further dismissals at Mie Sedaap,” he said.
“This is something that, in our view, should not be happening during Ramadan and ahead of Eid. As such, Mie Sedaap has agreed to stop the layoffs,” he added.
When asked about plans to visit the relevant parties, Dasco said the commitment from management was sufficient. He expressed hope that the employment situation would remain stable ahead of Eid.
“I believe the commitment from Mie Sedaap is adequate. We have already coordinated, and I think the workers can return to work with peace of mind, so that we can all observe the fasting month calmly and face Eid with tranquillity,” he said.
Previously, PT Karunia Alam Segar, the manufacturer of Mie Sedaap based in Gresik, East Java, had addressed reports that the company had laid off 400-500 workers ahead of Eid.
The reports went viral on social media, with allegations that the layoffs were intended to avoid paying the mandatory Eid holiday bonus (THR). In response, the company issued a statement.
Peter Sindaru, Human Resources and General Affairs head at PT Karunia Alam Segar, denied the allegations. Peter said the decision to furlough workers was part of the operational dynamics of a labour-intensive manufacturing industry.
“As a labour-intensive manufacturing industry, our company operations are heavily influenced by market demand dynamics. Therefore, adjustments to production capacity are a standard measure to ensure long-term business sustainability,” Peter told reporters on Monday (23/2).
