DPR Receives Student Aspirations to Convey to Government

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR RI), Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, stated that the House has received aspirations from students who held a demonstration at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Friday, and will forward them to the government.

According to him, the student representatives participating in the audience were from Trisakti University, Mercu Buanda University, Esa Unggul University, and the Islamic Student Association (HMI).

“In essence, they are conveying aspirations to be passed on to the government and to the DPR within the context of the DPR’s supervisory duties,” said Dasco at the parliamentary complex, Jakarta, on Friday.

He noted that communication between the DPR and the student representatives proceeded well during the audience, which commenced around 6:00 PM WIB and concluded at 7:10 PM WIB.

Dasco also committed to opening wider channels of communication with the student community in the future.

“We will communicate more extensively with students moving forward,” he said.

Meanwhile, the President of Trisakti University Students, Dhenni Ribowo, stated that the audience had provided answers to some of the demands presented, although several issues still require improvement.

According to him, the students presented several demands, including concerns regarding the scarcity of subsidised fuel (BBM), which has led to an increase in the price of basic necessities, as well as the importance of maintaining economic stability.

He warned that the economic situation must not further burden the public, as it has the potential to trigger larger waves of protest.

“Our hope is that we can wait for the promises made in the coming period to see the results,” said Dhenni.
