DPR Ready to Mitigate Potential Layoffs with All Stakeholders
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) Sufmi Dasco Ahmad stated that the DPR is ready to undertake mitigation efforts regarding potential layoffs (PHK) in several industrial sectors, together with all relevant stakeholders. “The issue of layoffs as a result of the global situation is something that has already been mitigated to some extent,” Dasco said when met in Jakarta on Tuesday. “However, to anticipate future impacts, we will soon, God willing, hold a coordination meeting on Friday (26/6) with stakeholders, including the government’s Layoff Mitigation Task Force formed to handle such matters.” He cited the example of a ceramics factory in Bekasi, West Java, which is threatened with closure and could lay off more than 50,000 workers due to rising industrial gas prices. This follows a report from the Chairman of the Confederation of All Indonesian Workers’ Unions (KSPSI), Andi Gani Nena Wea, who separately stated that layoffs at one of the largest ceramics factories in Bekasi could occur within the next 7 to 10 days. Dasco has initiated communication with the President Director of PT Pertamina (Persero) to discuss the increase in industrial gas prices. “After making contact, I have also arranged to meet with representatives of the affected labour unions. Then, to meet with Pertamina’s CEO, perhaps tomorrow, to discuss solutions for the companies that could impact 55,000 employees,” he said. Dasco also called on labour unions to remain united in maintaining national economic stability amidst increasingly challenging conditions due to geopolitical and global economic dynamics. “Moreover, we must work together to maintain economic and political stability for our prosperity and the people’s interests,” he said. “The global impact is extraordinary. But if we are united and share good intentions to solve this together, we can certainly mitigate undesirable outcomes that would cause hardship for our people.”
