Jakarta - Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) Sari Yuliati has urged the police to thoroughly investigate the case of alleged confinement and abuse of a woman with the initials YTR in Bandung Regency, West Java, including the possible involvement of other parties. “The main perpetrator and any parties suspected of involvement must be held accountable in accordance with the provisions, including through the application of the Sexual Violence Crime Law and relevant articles in the Criminal Code,” Sari Yuliati said in a statement in Jakarta on Thursday. She requested that law enforcement officials uncover the entire sequence of events and process every individual proven to be involved. “The victim must receive maximum protection, psychological counselling, health services, legal aid, and sustainable trauma recovery,” she said. She commended the West Java Regional Police for arresting a suspect with the initials TH. According to Sari, the resolution of the case was the result of law enforcement efforts supported by public concern for the victim. “There must be no room for perpetrators of violence against women. Firm law enforcement, supported by public empathy and concern, is key to creating a sense of security and justice for all citizens,” she said. The West Java Police previously arrested TH, also known as Taufik Hidayat, in connection with the alleged confinement and abuse of his girlfriend, YTR, in the Griya Pesona housing complex in Ciparay, Bandung Regency, on Tuesday night.
