DPR pushes for salary and allowance increases for teachers and lecturers in 2027
The Deputy Chairman of Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR), Lalu Hadrian Irfani, is urging the government to include improvements to the welfare of teachers and lecturers through salary and allowance increases in the discussion of the 2027 Fiscal Year Draft State Budget (RAPBN).
Speaking at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Friday, Lalu said Commission X is waiting for the government to present a formula or scheme for improving the welfare of educators. “We are very supportive, but one thing we are actually waiting for in Commission X is how the government proposes a formula or scheme for teacher welfare,” he said.
According to him, improving teacher welfare needs to be a government priority because it is linked to efforts to enhance the quality of national education. Lalu said Commission X will push for the welfare improvements to cover both salaries and allowances for teachers and lecturers.
“Of course, we continue to push that teacher welfare is a very important matter because it is the foundation for building the standard and quality of our education. Salary and allowance increases,” he said.
Lalu compared the proposal to the welfare improvements the government has provided to other professions. “If judges get a rise, and the TNI’s performance allowances go up, then we also push for teachers and lecturers to get a salary and allowance increase,” he said.
According to him, the discussion regarding teacher welfare will be continued by Commission X together with the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education during the discussion of the definitive budget ceiling. Meanwhile, discussions regarding lecturer welfare will involve the ministry responsible for higher education in accordance with its authority.
The DPR held its 1st Plenary Meeting of the 2026-2027 Session Year at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Friday, with an agenda including the opening of the 1st Session Period of the 2026-2027 Session Year and the government’s presentation of the Bill on the 2027 Fiscal Year State Budget along with its Financial Note.
