DPR Commission XI Chairman Mukhamad Misbakhun highlighted several challenges in the financial services sector. He stated that the biggest challenge currently in the financial sector is boosting bank credit growth back above 10 per cent.

“The biggest challenge in the financial sector right now is raising credit growth back to double digits. For the first time in history, credit growth in 2025 stood at 9.7 per cent, which will be a challenge,” Misbakhun said during his speech at the 2026 National Conference on Regional Economic Development (KNPED) in Jakarta on Monday (25 May 2026).

He explained the positive effects of double-digit credit growth. A significant multiplier effect comes from high credit growth, which is expected to boost investment.

“Strong banking sector support has a positive impact on the real sector, which continues to contribute. The multiplier effect from financing will be substantial. Strong financing across all sectors will seriously drive efforts for all types of businesses, including corporates, consumers, and MSMEs,” he explained.

Ultimately, Misbakhun added, this would strengthen Indonesian consumers’ purchasing power, driving economic growth. Domestic consumption remains the backbone of national economic growth.
