Jakarta, VIVA – Deputy Chairman of Commission VIII of the DPR RI, Singgih Januratmoko, expressed his appreciation for the smooth organisation of the 1447 H/2026 M Hajj pilgrimage, which has so far shown positive and controlled performance.

Based on field reports, more than 80 percent of Indonesian pilgrims have arrived in Mecca in good condition. Transportation, accommodation, and catering services are running relatively smoothly without significant disruption. This reflects the increasingly mature systemic preparedness in the national Hajj organisation.

“This is an achievement that we should all be grateful for. The solid coordination between Hajj officials, the government, and the Saudi Arabian authorities shows an improvement in service quality from year to year,” said Singgih in a written statement, quoted on Sunday, 17 May 2026.

He also praised the government under the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto for establishing a separate ministry for Hajj affairs, namely the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah of the Republic of Indonesia, as an appropriate and strategic policy.

The Golkar Party politician believes that the existence of the KHU (Ministry of Hajj and Umrah) allows for greater focus, more professional management, and faster and more coordinated decision-making. This also creates a level playing field and is more effective in establishing working relationships with the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Hajj and Umrah.

“With an equivalent institution, the process of negotiating quotas, services, and technical operations becomes more efficient. This has a direct impact on the quality of service to pilgrims,” he added.

Singgih emphasised that the next crucial phase is the peak of the Hajj pilgrimage in Arafah, Muzdalifah, and Mina.

He appreciated the anticipatory measures that have been prepared, including strengthening the scheme for transporting pilgrims from Mecca to Arafah and movement between locations in Mina, providing pilgrim-friendly tents, including cooling and sanitation facilities, timely distribution of food according to pilgrims’ needs, and preparing health services, especially for elderly and high-risk pilgrims.

Data shows that the majority of Indonesian pilgrims are in the age category of over 50 years, so they need special attention in terms of health and mobility.

In facing potential congestion and extreme weather in Mina, Singgih believes that the mitigation steps that need to be taken by the government are on the right track.
