DPR Plenary Session Officially Enacts Witness and Victim Protection Law

The 17th plenary session of the DPR, marking the closure of the fourth session of the 2025-2026 period, officially enacted the Witness and Victim Protection Bill (PSDK) into law on Tuesday (22/4). The approval session was chaired by DPR Speaker Puan Maharani, along with three deputy speakers: Sufmi Dasco Ahmad from the Gerindra Faction, Cucun Ahmad Syamsurizal from PKB, and Saan Mustopa from NasDem. “The time has come for me to request the approval of the factions on the PSDK Bill, whether it can be approved to be enacted as a law?” stated Puan, seeking agreement from the session participants, who responded “agreed”. Following its official enactment, the bill will be submitted to the President for signing within a maximum of 30 days before it officially takes effect. The PSDK Bill was previously officially approved at the first level through the Working Committee (Panja) in the DPR’s Commission XIII on Human Rights on Monday (13/4). Head of the PSDK Bill Working Committee Andreas Hugo Pareira stated that the PSDK Bill consists of 12 chapters and 78 articles. Among them are provisions expanding protection, not only for witnesses but also for reporters, informants, and/or experts. The bill also regulates the strengthening of victims’ human rights, including the right to physical and psychological protection, legal assistance, accompaniment, information on case developments, and recovery through mechanisms of restitution, compensation, and rehabilitation. The law will also serve as the foundation to strengthen the existence of the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK).
