The government and the House of Representatives (DPR) agreed to pass the Law on the Indonesia International Financial Centre (PFII) during a plenary session on Tuesday (21/7/2026). The PFII Law was immediately ratified after the PFII Bill was agreed upon by all factions in the DPR Commission XI meeting on Monday (20/7/2026).

“We will ask all factions whether the Bill on the Indonesia International Financial Centre (PFII) can be approved to be passed into law?” asked DPR Speaker Puan Maharani during the Plenary Session at the DPR Complex, Tuesday (21/7/2026).

“Agreed!” shouted the DPR members. Puan then banged the gavel. The question was posed by Puan twice and was met with shouts of ‘agreed’, until the gavel was struck again, marking the joint approval for the birth of the new law.

The process of creating the PFII Law was relatively swift. It took only nearly a month since the bill was included in the 2026 National Legislation Programme (Prolegnas) on 23 June 2026.

Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa revealed that the decision on the PFII Law is crucial and historic for the direction of Indonesia’s economic development. He stated that amidst challenging global economic dynamics, Indonesia needs a strategic leap by strengthening economic resilience, diversifying sources of development financing, and solidifying Indonesia’s position as an emerging economic powerhouse on the global stage.

The PFII legislation was born from the awareness that as the largest country in Southeast Asia and a member of the G20, Indonesia already needs its own credible, independent, and integrity-driven financial centre with global competitiveness.

“The existence of this PFII is not to replace the existing domestic financial system, but to complement it with a world-class integrated ecosystem. Throughout the lengthy discussion process up to the first-level working meeting, the government and the DPR have held constructive discussions to ensure that this PFII Bill is not only attractive to the global sector but also ensures alignment with national interests,” Purbaya stated.
