DPR opens space for public input on Asset Forfeiture Bill

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR) Saan Mustopa said the space for the public to provide input on the substance of the Asset Forfeiture Bill remains open.

Saan, in a statement received in Jakarta on Friday, explained that the public can convey their views through representatives or spokespersons appointed to attend public hearing meetings (RDPU) at the DPR.

“Whoever the spokesperson is and whoever will be sent to attend the RDPU at the DPR, please submit all input regarding the substance and content of the bill. What the public’s concerns and wishes are becomes our shared commitment,” he said.

The DPR invited the public to monitor every stage of the deliberation so that the deadline that has been set can be met. This oversight is considered important to ensure the commitment to completing the bill proceeds according to schedule.

“We have jointly set the deadline for the ratification of the Asset Forfeiture Bill no later than 15 December 2026. Let us together escort, guard, and monitor so that this date truly aligns with our shared commitment,” he said.

Previously, the Third Plenary Meeting of the DPR RI for Session Period I of the 2026–2027 Sitting Year affirmed the commitment to complete the Bill on Asset Forfeiture no later than 15 December 2026.

“We thank the Chair of Commission III of the DPR RI who has delivered his report and we are committed to completing the Asset Forfeiture Bill into law. It was conveyed earlier that according to the DPR RI calendar, the deadline is no later than 15 December 2026. Can this be approved?” said Dasco, which was then approved by the legislators.

The commitment was also reiterated when DPR leaders received an audience with representatives of demonstrators from the Pati United Community Alliance (AMPB).

The commitment was signed by Deputy Speaker of the DPR RI Sufmi Dasco Ahmad and witnessed by AMPB representatives, one of whom was Supriyono, also known as Botok. Besides Dasco, Deputy Speakers of the DPR RI Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal and Saan Mustopa were also present.

“There is already approval from the DPR leadership committing to complete this law on time,” said Dasco.

Dasco also said he is prepared to meet the AMPB’s demand that he resign if the bill is not completed by 15 December. He admitted he is not worried because the DPR has committed to completing the bill.

“There is no concern about us fulfilling the demands of our friends. If it is indeed not completed, then we will resign, that is no problem,” he said.
