DPR Opens Public Input Channel on Asset Forfeiture Bill

Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) Saan Mustopa has stated that the space for the public to provide input on the substance of the Asset Forfeiture Bill (RUU Perampasan Aset) remains wide open. The public is encouraged to convey their aspirations officially through the mechanisms available in parliament.

In his statement in Jakarta on Friday (28/8), Saan explained that the public can present their views through representatives or spokespersons appointed to attend Public Hearing Meetings (RDPU) at the DPR.

“Whoever the spokesperson is and whoever will be delegated to attend the RDPU at the DPR, please submit all input regarding the substance and content of the bill. What the public’s concerns and wishes are becomes our shared commitment,” said Saan.

Saan assured that the deliberation of the Asset Forfeiture Bill will be completed and enacted into law no later than 15 December 2026. This target is in line with the decision affirmed at the Plenary Session on Thursday (27/8).

The DPR also invites the public to actively monitor every stage of the deliberation. Public oversight is considered crucial to ensure the commitment to complete the bill proceeds according to the established schedule.

“We have jointly set the deadline for the enactment of the Asset Forfeiture Bill no later than 15 December 2026. Let us together guard, maintain, and monitor so that this date truly aligns with our shared commitment,” he added.

Previously, the 3rd Plenary Session of the DPR RI for Session Period I of the 2026–2027 Session Year agreed on the completion of this bill. Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad affirmed the commitment after receiving a progress report from the Chairman of Commission III of the DPR RI, Habiburokhman.

This commitment was further reinforced when the DPR leadership received an audience from the Pati United Community Alliance (AMPB). During the meeting, a signing of the agreement document was carried out by Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, witnessed by Deputy Speaker Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal, Saan Mustopa, and AMPB representatives.

Dasco asserted that he is not concerned about the demands because he is optimistic that the DPR will fulfil the commitment to complete the law. “If it is indeed not completed, then we will resign, that is not a problem,” concluded Dasco.
