DPR: Online transport presidential regulation strengthens driver protection
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) has stated that the finalisation of the Presidential Regulation on the online transport ecosystem with the government will strengthen protection for online motorcycle taxi drivers and couriers delivering goods and food.
Deputy Speaker of the DPR Sufmi Dasco Ahmad said the finalisation of the presidential regulation involved several relevant ministries, including the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs, the Ministry of Transportation, and the Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises.
“Tariffs for goods and food are regulated by Komdigi, passenger transport tariffs by the Ministry of Transportation, while online transport operators will be overseen by the Ministry of SMEs,” Dasco said after the finalisation meeting with the government at the Parliament Complex in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Dasco said the protection in the regulation is no longer limited to passenger transport drivers, but also covers couriers delivering goods and food.
According to Dasco, tariffs for passenger, goods, and food transport have been simulated, but still need to go through a harmonisation process so they cannot yet be announced.
He said one more meeting will be held with the relevant ministries as well as one meeting with online motorcycle taxi driver organisations and platform companies before the presidential regulation is issued.
“We ask all parties to be patient. Let us wait for the presidential regulation, hopefully everything can run well,” he said.
Meanwhile, Minister of SMEs Maman Abdurrahman said his ministry will meet with associations, online motorcycle taxi driver communities, and platform companies to absorb final aspirations before the regulation is issued.
“We will invite them to meet and absorb final aspirations from the community, online motorcycle taxi associations, and also platform companies,” he said.
Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Nezar Patria said his ministry will involve more platforms and drivers to find an optimal tariff balance point.
Meanwhile, Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi said the regulation, which originally focused on passenger transport, has been expanded in accordance with the direction of President Prabowo Subianto and DPR leadership.
For passenger transport, Dudy said platform companies’ commission is capped at a maximum of 8 percent so that drivers receive at least 92 percent. This provision has been in effect since 1 July 2026 through a Minister of Transportation Decree.
