DPR: New BI Governor Must Maintain Central Bank Independence

Jakarta - Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives (DPR) Commission XI, Fauzi Amro, has stated that the new Bank Indonesia (BI) Governor must be able to maintain the central bank’s independence in accordance with the law. In addition to safeguarding independence, the new leader of BI is also expected to strengthen monetary policy credibility, maintain rupiah exchange rate and inflation stability, and enhance synergy between institutions. “Going forward, our hope for the new Bank Indonesia Governor is to be able to maintain BI’s independence as mandated by law, strengthen monetary policy credibility, maintain rupiah exchange rate and inflation stability, and continue to strengthen synergy with the government and financial sector authorities to support healthy, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth,” Fauzi said in Jakarta on Monday. It is known that BI Governor Perry Warjiyo has resigned from his position, as announced by Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi in Jakarta on Monday morning. Fauzi stated that Commission XI respects Perry Warjiyo’s decision to resign from his post as BI Governor. He also noted that President Prabowo Subianto has received Perry’s resignation letter and will process it in accordance with applicable regulations. Furthermore, Fauzi expressed appreciation for Perry’s service while leading Bank Indonesia in maintaining monetary stability, payment systems, and financial system stability. “We express our appreciation and gratitude to Mr. Perry Warjiyo for his dedication and contributions during his leadership of Bank Indonesia in maintaining monetary stability, payment systems, and financial system stability,” he said.
