DPR Mosque Prayer: Puan Hopes Eid al-Adha Will Foster Social Solidarity
DPR Speaker Puan Maharani urged the public to use Eid al-Adha 1447 AH as an opportunity to foster unity and compassion. The festival, associated with sacrifice and pilgrimage, is a perfect moment to strengthen social values.
‘Eid al-Adha, or the Festival of Sacrifice, teaches us about selflessness and sacrifice,’ Puan said on Wednesday (27 May 2026).
Puan attended Eid al-Adha prayers at Baiturrahman Mosque in the Parliamentary Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, alongside DPR staff and local residents. The prayers were led by Ustadz Sahid Darajat, with a sermon titled ‘Eid al-Adha: A Moment for Sacrifice to Foster Unity and Compassion for Others’.
According to Puan, Eid al-Adha is an ideal time to reflect on the meaning of sharing. ‘The Festival of Sacrifice also teaches us to be sensitive and compassionate towards others,’ she said.
Eid al-Adha, she explained, demonstrates how Muslims emulate Prophet Ibrahim’s selflessness and Prophet Ismail’s steadfastness by sharing sacrificial offerings from those with abundance to those in need.
Therefore, Puan called on the public to internalise the meaning of Eid al-Adha as a collective national call to strengthen solidarity, unity, and social compassion in facing various challenges.
‘Let us embody these Eid values through collective efforts to solve national issues,’ Puan said. After the prayers, she posed for photos with several female worshippers.
She later inspected the DPR’s sacrificial animals, which will be slaughtered on Thursday (28 May). Puan donated a one-tonne Limousin bull to be distributed among DPR staff and local communities.
‘Eid al-Adha is eagerly anticipated each year. I hope this year’s celebration will raise awareness of the sacrifice exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim,’ she added.
She added that today’s sacrificial celebrations should make Muslims more sensitive to collective interests and more determined to fight for social justice.
She expressed hope that Eid al-Adha would soften hearts and foster kindness, especially towards the poor. ‘On behalf of myself, my family, and the DPR, I extend Eid al-Adha greetings for 1447 Hijriyah. Please forgive my physical and spiritual shortcomings,’ she said.
‘May every sacrifice, whether visible or hidden, become a path to dignify the lives of all people as individuals and as a nation,’ she added.
