TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:The House of Representatives(DPR) is warning local businessmen to prepare themselves for the invasion of Indian products, as they will be low-priced, in line with the plan to ratify the ASEANIndia free-trade agreement.

The Trade and Industry Commission chairman Airlangga Hartarto explained that Indian products may be competing with middle to upper class products. These products are intended for consumers with better purchasing power compared to Chinese products. He cited Indian washing machines, which are of good quality.

“The economic scale in India is higher,” he said at the DPR building yesterday. According to Airlangga, in general, India has similar industrial characteristic to China, which relies on its textile, steel, and home electronic products. “But India has better business network,” he said.
