Jakarta (ANTARA) - Member of Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Habib Syarife Muhammad, expressed hope that there will be no more errors in social assistance (bansos) data following the approval of the Indonesia One Data Bill (RUU SDI) as Law by the DPR RI.

In a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday, Habib noted that the core essence of the law, which consists of 20 chapters and 141 articles, is to guarantee the integration of social assistance programmes, subsidies, and development to ensure they reach the intended targets.

The SDI Law, he said, must be integrated with the National Socio-Economic Single Data (DTSEN) and provide a mechanism for citizens to perform self-correction of their data free of charge.

“This law must provide an update mechanism that allows citizens to easily and without cost submit corrections to their own data, in accordance with the Personal Data Protection Law,” he said.

Therefore, he hopes there will no longer be data errors, as these can directly lead to social injustice.

“The issue of data is not merely a technical administrative matter of government, but a mandate that must be held accountable. Data errors do not only impact statistical accuracy, but also wound the sense of justice,” he stated.

Furthermore, the legislator from the DPR commission overseeing technology encouraged strengthening the role of village governments so they are not positioned merely as data reporters. According to him, village officials and vulnerable groups must receive a real principle of recognition in the collection of disaggregated data.

“Village governments must be given clear authority to collect, verify, and update data in accordance with the spirit of the Village Law. The principle of recognition for pesantren (Islamic boarding schools) and vulnerable groups must be realised concretely,” he said.

Habib also reminded of the importance of sovereignty and the security of citizens’ personal data against potential cyber leaks.

He requested that the access of law enforcement agencies to the personal data of the public should not be granted freely, but must be restricted through strict court authorisation mechanisms.

He also highlighted the importance of clarity regarding the state’s authority over the data of Indonesian citizens that is processed or stored abroad, such as the data of Hajj and Umrah pilgrims.

Derivative regulations of the SDI Law are also expected to reconcile the principle of data sovereignty with the reality of cross-border data exchange.

On Tuesday, the 9th Plenary Session of the DPR for the First Session Period of the 2026-2027 Legislative Year approved the SDI Bill to be enacted as Law.

Before the bill was approved, the Deputy Chairman of the DPR Legislative Body (Baleg), Sturman Panjaitan, stated that the drafting of the SDI Bill was based on the constitutional mandate to protect all Indonesian citizens.

According to him, data accuracy is essential for creating justice. The DPR Legislative Body believes that high-quality data is the foundation of public policy that is accurate, transparent, and accountable.

“When data is incorrect, it is not just the numbers that are wrong, but justice is wounded. Misdirected assistance, overlapping programmes, and ineffective budgets often stem from a single source: poorly managed data,” he said.
