DPR Members Applaud as Finance Minister Guarantees No Subsidised Fuel Price Hike in 2026

Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has guaranteed that there will be no increase in subsidised fuel prices until the end of 2026. However, he provided no certainty regarding non-subsidised fuel.

This was conveyed by Purbaya during a working meeting with the DPR’s Commission XI at the DPR RI in Jakarta on Monday (6/4/2026). Initially, the Chairman of Commission XI, M Misbakhun, sought assurance from Purbaya regarding the fate of fuel prices.

“I want to confirm this again, sir. What you last conveyed is very important for the public to know that even with fuel exercises at USD 80 per barrel, USD 90 per barrel, and USD 100 per barrel, the state is ready, right, sir?” asked Misbakhun.

Purbaya confirmed readiness up to USD 100 per barrel. He stated that the government is prepared if such conditions persist until the end of 2026.

“We are ready. The announcement last time was based on the assumption of USD 100, so we are prepared if it reaches that level,” replied Purbaya.

“Ready until the end of the year?” Misbakhun asked again.

“Until the end of the year,” Purbaya answered.

Misbakhun then inquired whether this readiness included not raising fuel prices. Purbaya affirmed it. The members of Commission XI then responded with applause.

“Now this is what the public needs to know, sir, that the government is ready not to raise prices until the end of the year,” said Misbakhun.

“We are ready not to raise prices until the end of the year for subsidised fuel, with the assumption of an average oil price of USD 100 per barrel until the end of the year already calculated,” said Purbaya, met with applause.

Purbaya then clarified that this certainty applies only to subsidised fuel. He urged the public not to fear or worry.

“There will be no (increase) for the subsidised ones, yes. The non-subsidised is not our calculation, because it’s not in our budget, yes, so the subsidised ones are safe until the end of the year. So the public outside doesn’t need to fuss or be afraid; we’ve already calculated it,” he stated.
