DPR Member Urges State Institutions to Operate Within Their Mandates Amid Coal Corruption Probe
Jakarta (ANTARA) - A member of the House of Representatives’ Commission I, Cindy Monica, has reminded every state institution to carry out its respective functions in accordance with legislative mandates, responding to the controversy surrounding the handling of an alleged corruption case in coal procurement.
She stated that the law enforcement process must be fully entrusted to the authorised law enforcement apparatus. Meanwhile, other institutions, including the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), must continue to perform their constitutional roles and duties to maintain national stability.
“No party should protect anyone in the investigation of this case. Anyone proven to be involved must be processed according to the applicable law, and anyone obstructing law enforcement must also be held accountable,” Cindy said in a statement on Thursday.
She expressed full support for the Indonesian National Police’s steps in opening and thoroughly investigating the alleged corruption. According to her, any allegation of corruption, especially in strategic sectors that have a broad impact on society, must be handled professionally, transparently, and without discrimination.
She noted that the investigation aligns with President Prabowo Subianto’s commitment to making the eradication of corruption a government priority. This commitment must be realised through independent, objective, and fair law enforcement against anyone involved.
“Corruption in the energy sector not only harms the state but also has a direct impact on the community,” she said.
Previously, the Head of the TNI Information Centre, Brigadier General TNI Muhamad Nas, stated that the presence of TNI personnel to guard the residence of the Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus), Febrie Adriansyah, was at the request of the Attorney General’s Office.
“This security measure was carried out at the request of the prosecutor’s institution and has been coordinated according to applicable mechanisms and regulations, as stipulated in Presidential Regulation Number 66 of 2025 concerning the protection of prosecutors in carrying out their duties,” Nas said in a press statement received in Jakarta on Thursday.
Nas stated that the security measure was unrelated to any ongoing legal cases involving the Attorney General’s Office and the Indonesian National Police. He also denied any deployment of troops to the Metro Jaya Regional Police Headquarters, as narrated in a video circulating on social media, asserting that the information was untrue.
