DPR Member Urges Police to Thoroughly Investigate Fake Singapore Dollar Case

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Member of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Slamet Ariyadi, has requested the Indonesian National Police (Polri) to handle the case of alleged circulation of counterfeit Singapore dollars, valued at 340,000 Singapore dollars or approximately Rp4.7 billion, transparently and thoroughly.

According to him, the police must clearly communicate the progress of the case to the public, including the steps taken and the obstacles faced by investigators. This is particularly important as no suspects have yet been identified in the case currently being handled by the South Tangerang Police.

“We request that Polri clearly convey what has been done, what the obstacles are, the next legal steps, and the target for resolution,” Slamet said in Jakarta on Wednesday.

He reminded that transparency from the police is essential to ensure that the handling of the case proceeds according to legal procedures and does not raise questions or suspicion among the public.

Furthermore, he also requested the police not to focus solely on those suspected of direct involvement, but also to trace the possibility of a larger network. If indications of a wider network are found during the investigation, he requested that the police expose all involved parties, including those suspected of being the intellectual actors.

“It must be uncovered, reaching the intellectual actors as well as other parties involved,” he said.

Previously, the South Tangerang Police Chief, AKBP Boy Jumalolo, stated that investigators have examined six witnesses regarding the alleged forgery and circulation of 34 notes of 10,000 Singapore dollar denominations, totalling 340,000 Singapore dollars.

“We are also still examining other parties deemed to have knowledge of the case,” Boy said in a statement received in Jakarta on Wednesday (9/9).

South Tangerang Police are also coordinating with the Indonesian National Police International Relations Division (Divhubinter) to request information from the Singapore Police Force regarding the investigation status of an Indonesian citizen currently in Singapore. The police are still awaiting an official response from the Singaporean authorities regarding the matter.
