JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - A member of the House of Representatives Commission III, Abdullah, has urged the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to explain the reasons behind the transfer of former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas from detention to house arrest.

The KPK is requested to provide an objective explanation to the public.

“It must be explained transparently and objectively to the public. What is the legal basis and what guarantees that the suspect will not flee,” said Abdullah, when contacted on Sunday (22/3/2026).

According to him, the KPK’s decision must not harm the sense of justice in society.

“Because in efforts to eradicate corruption, what is needed is not only compliance with legal procedures, but also fairness with the principle of equality before the law,” he added.

Previously reported, the KPK transferred Yaqut Cholil Qoumas’s detention from the detention centre to house arrest due to a request from the family.

In his statement, Budi explained that the request from Yaqut’s family was submitted on Tuesday (17/3/2026). However, the specific reasons for the family’s request were not detailed.

“A request from the family side,” said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo when confirmed by Kompas.com on Saturday (21/3/2026).

This transfer of detention was carried out after reviewing Article 108 paragraphs (1) and (11) of Law Number 20 of 2025 on the Criminal Procedure Code.

The KPK stated that this transfer is only temporary and will still be monitored.

“During the implementation of this detention transfer, the KPK will continue to carry out close supervision and security for the individual,” Budi continued.
