DPR Member Urges Foreign Ministry to Map Indonesian Citizens in Mexico for Protection
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Member of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Amelia Anggraini, has urged the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia to conduct a thorough mapping of the number and distribution of Indonesian citizens in Mexico, in order to ensure protection amidst the unrest occurring in the country.
According to her, the development of the unrest situation in Mexico must be viewed seriously, not only as a domestic issue of the country, but as a regional security dynamic that has the potential to have cross-country implications.
“This situation will certainly have a direct impact on the safety of Indonesian citizens in Mexico,” said Amelia in Jakarta, Wednesday.
She said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also needs to increase direct communication with the Indonesian community in Mexico, as well as provide emergency evacuation routes if the situation worsens.
“The crisis communication system must be active 24 hours a day with close coordination with local security authorities,” she said.
In addition, Amelia added, coordination between diplomatic representatives also needs to be strengthened. This coordination is not only with the Indonesian representation in Mexico, but also with the Indonesian Embassy in Washington DC, as well as Indonesian representatives in countries around Central and North America.
“This approach is important to ensure a regional contingency scenario if relocation or cross-jurisdictional assistance is needed,” she said.
“There is full coordination with the government of all states; we must remain informed and calm,” said Sheinbaum on the X platform, adding that activities were proceeding normally in most parts of the country.
She acknowledged the unrest following the operation and referred to a report from the Ministry of Defense about “various blockades and other reactions.”
“We work every day for the peace, security, justice, and welfare of Mexico,” said Sheinbaum.
