JAKARTA – Member of Commission XII of the House of Representatives (DPR RI), Jalal Abdul Nasir, has emphasised the importance of enforcing fiscal obligations and environmental responsibility by large industrial companies, particularly PT Virtue Dragon Nickel Industry (PT VDNI) and PT Obsidian Stainless Steel (PT OSS).

Jalal made the remarks following a Specific Working Visit (Kunsfik) by Commission XII of the DPR RI to Southeast Sulawesi Province.

Jalal stated that the presence of large-scale industries in the regions must provide tangible contributions to the development and welfare of local communities, including by fulfilling all regional tax obligations as a form of social and environmental responsibility towards resource-producing areas.

"The nickel industry must deliver direct benefits to Southeast Sulawesi, not only in terms of employment but also fiscal contributions through industrial fuel taxes, heavy vehicle levies, taxes on groundwater surface utilisation, and foreign worker contributions of USD 100 per person per month," Jalal asserted.

The PKS faction member of the DPR also highlighted corporate commitment to environmental conservation. He stressed the importance of responsible waste management, air pollution control, and the implementation of environmental audits that are transparent and consistent with prevailing legislation.

"We do not reject investment. But proper investment is one that complies with the law, is fair to the regions, and is environmentally friendly," Jalal said.

The PKS faction is pushing for synergy between the central and regional governments in conducting oversight and enforcing environmental law, as well as optimising regional revenue from strategic industrial sectors such as nickel.

"Southeast Sulawesi must not merely be a spectator. The region must benefit from its natural wealth," he said. "And that can only happen if companies comply with their tax obligations and are socially and ecologically responsible," Jalal added.
