DPR Member Urges Basuki to Implement Energy-Saving Measures in IKN
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - A member of Commission II of the House of Representatives (DPR), Ujang Bey, has urged the Head of the Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN), Basuki Hadimuljono, to implement an energy-saving system amid uncertainties in global oil prices due to the Middle East conflict.
According to Ujang, the current global situation could directly impact Indonesia’s economy.
“I also hope that in IKN, regarding the energy-saving programme related to electricity and energy in IKN, please carry out a savings movement as well, Mr Bas,” said Ujang to Basuki during a Commission II DPR RI meeting at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, on Monday (30/3/2026).
He cited the example that the DPR RI has already implemented energy-saving policies related to electricity and fuel.
“Yesterday, alhamdulillah, the DPR through the DPR Secretariat has issued a circular regarding electricity and fuel savings in the DPR office,” he stated.
Previously reported, the Secretary General of the DPR, Indra Iskandar, revealed that they have reduced fuel quotas for civil servants (ASN) using operational vehicles.
This step aligns with the government’s efforts to save fuel amid the energy crisis due to the Middle East conflict.
“We are focusing on ASN. So, currently, temporarily, the fuel quota is reduced by one day per week for those using operational vehicles of echelon I, echelon II, and some echelon III,” said Indra when asked for confirmation on Friday (27/3/2026).
However, Indra noted that this commitment has not yet been formalised, as DPR officials will only return in full on Monday (30/3/2026).
In addition, Indra disclosed that the DPR will implement energy savings in every building.
He claimed that lights will be turned off at 6 PM if there are no meetings or sessions in the building.
“Certainly, for the night time, there will be restrictions on lighting in every building. This will be shortened to 6 PM. Every day, there will be a working group to check the rooms,” Indra added.
