Banyuwangi, East Java — Bambang Haryo Soekartono, a member of Commission VII of the House of Representatives, has called on PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) to construct new berths on the Ketapang-Gilimanuk route to increase transport capacity on one of the country’s busiest maritime corridors.

“This requires immediate attention and must be a priority to promptly build two pairs of berths each at Ketapang Port and Gilimanuk Port,” he stated whilst conducting oversight of the 2026 Eid homebound migration flow at Ketapang Port in Banyuwangi, East Java, on Monday.

He also noted that the insufficient number of berths at both Ketapang Port in Banyuwangi, East Java, and Gilimanuk Port in Jembrana, Bali, has caused prolonged queues of travellers at Gilimanuk Port during this year’s Eid exodus.

The legislator attributed impediments to public mobility during the 2026 Eid migration period to the fact that dozens of available vessels cannot operate at full capacity.

The Gerindra faction member further noted that ferries operating on the Ketapang-Gilimanuk route are operating at overload capacity.

“In reality, one berth is designed to accommodate four vessels on rotation, whilst approximately 50 per cent of ferry vessels have yet to receive berth allocations,” Bambang stated.

He therefore pressed the government to immediately add berths on the Ketapang-Gilimanuk route, either through state capital participation (PMN) allocated to ASDP or general state budget (APBN) funds.

“We will voice this in the plenary session of parliament, because we cannot allow the Ketapang-Gilimanuk crossing—an iconic world tourism route since Bali is a world tourism destination—to deter tourists from visiting,” he said.

According to available data, the Ketapang-Gilimanuk route currently has 17 active berths, comprising nine berths at Ketapang Port comprising four MB type berths, three LCM berths, one pontoon, and one bulusan berth, and eight berths at Gilimanuk Port consisting of four MB berths and four LCM berths.

During the Eid homebound migration period, LCM berths are focused on servicing logistics vehicles to ensure smooth distribution of goods whilst separating large vehicle traffic from passenger vehicle flow.
