DPR Member: TNI Performance Allowance Increase Must Impact Work Quality

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Member of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Oleh Soleh, stated that the increase in performance allowances (tukin) for Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) soldiers must have an impact on improving the quality of their work. “Our hope is that this increase in performance allowance has a direct impact on improving the TNI’s performance. Soldiers must become more professional, disciplined, and increasingly optimal in carrying out state duties,” he said in a statement in Jakarta on Monday. The defence sector legislator welcomed President Prabowo Subianto’s decision. The policy is seen as a form of state attention to the welfare of soldiers, which had not been adjusted since 2018. He also believes that the increase in performance allowances has undergone a thorough review by the government. According to him, improving the welfare of soldiers is an important investment to strengthen national defence. With better welfare, soldiers are expected to be more focused on carrying out their duties of safeguarding national sovereignty and security. “With better welfare, soldiers can be more at ease in meeting their family’s needs and more focused on serving the nation and state. Ultimately, it is the public who benefits from having a TNI that is increasingly professional, modern, and with integrity,” said Soleh. Nevertheless, he reminded that improved welfare must also be accompanied by increased integrity and compliance with the law. He hopes there will be no more TNI members committing serious violations or acts of violence that could tarnish the institution’s good name. “Do not let there still be rogue soldiers committing serious violations or acts of violence after their welfare has improved. Public trust in the TNI must be continuously maintained through a professional attitude and respect for the law,” said Soleh. Previously, President Prabowo Subianto raised the performance allowances of TNI soldiers and Ministry of Defence employees through two presidential regulations after approximately eight years without an adjustment to the allowance amount. The increase in performance allowances for soldiers and employees within the TNI was stipulated by the President through Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 42 of 2026 concerning Performance Allowances for Employees within the Indonesian National Armed Forces. Meanwhile, the increase in performance allowances for Ministry of Defence employees was stipulated in Perpres Number 43 of 2026 concerning Performance Allowances for Employees within the Ministry of Defence.
