Jakarta (ANTARA) - Member of House of Representatives Commission III Abdullah has stressed that justice cannot be born from acts of ‘vigilantism’, responding to the mob attack against a man with the initials KD in Tabanan Regency, Bali, which resulted in his death over the alleged theft of chickens. He urged the police to thoroughly investigate the alleged mob attack and ensure that not a single perpetrator escapes legal accountability, as a human life must not be lost to the anger of a mob. “There is no tolerance for the perpetrators of the mob attack. Anyone proven to have committed or participated in the attack must be held accountable before the law,” Abdullah said in Jakarta on Monday. He also urged the regional government and relevant ministries and agencies to provide protection to KD’s family, particularly his wife and children. The state, he said, must not stop at law enforcement but must also be present to provide assistance and psychological recovery for the family left behind. “The state must guarantee that KD’s wife and children can continue their lives by obtaining all their rights as citizens,” he said. To that end, he encouraged all stakeholders, regional governments, and law enforcement officials to conduct a thorough evaluation of the incident. He assessed that preventive measures through legal education and human rights awareness, as well as early detection of potential conflicts within communities, are strategic steps to prevent similar occurrences. “There should be no tolerance for such incidents. A dignified legal system not only delivers certainty and justice but also protects every human life,” Abdullah said. Earlier, the Tabanan Police named five suspects in the case of the mob attack that led to the death of KD. The five suspects are identified by the initials MJ, WS, KB, ML, and ND. Tabanan Police Chief AKBP I Putu Bayu Pati stated that his office is handling two matters simultaneously: the alleged criminal act of theft handled by the Baturiti Police, and the alleged joint violent act that caused the victim’s death. The police chief stressed that vigilante actions cannot be justified under any circumstances and that all legal processes must be handed over to law enforcement officials in accordance with applicable regulations.
