DPR Member Says School Building Revitalisation Must Meet Standards

Member of Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) Rycko Menoza has stressed that school building revitalisation must be carried out in accordance with technical standards to guarantee construction quality and the safety of students and teaching staff. “This construction must be done according to the specified technical standards. It must not be done carelessly, as that would pose risks and endanger the children and teachers in the future,” he said in South Lampung, Lampung Province, on Saturday. He made the statement while inspecting a revitalisation project at UPTD SMP Negeri 2 Ketapang, South Lampung Regency. He explained that the inspection was to ensure the implementation of the revitalisation project, which is funded through legislative aspirations, proceeds according to regulations. The project includes the repair and construction of several school facilities to improve the quality of educational infrastructure at the site. According to him, schools do not only function as places for the transfer of knowledge, but also as spaces for shaping the character of the younger generation. “Education must be a priority. Schools are where our children grow, develop, and build character so that they may become individuals who are beneficial to society and the nation,” he said. He expressed hope that the ongoing revitalisation would provide long-term benefits for the school, particularly through roof repairs and the construction of a new, more representative building. “Hopefully, the revitalisation from the aspirations we fought for can be utilised as best as possible by the school. We want the children to feel more comfortable and safe while studying at school,” he said. Rycko also urged all parties involved in the project to maintain the quality of work so that the construction results meet specifications and can be used in the long term to support teaching and learning activities at the school.
