DPR Member Says Indonesia Must Appreciate US-Iran Understanding

Member of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Amelia Anggraini, believes the Republic of Indonesia must appreciate the understanding reached between the United States (US) and Iran to halt the escalation of conflict and reopen diplomatic space. According to Amelia, the principle of a free and active foreign policy places Indonesia in a consistent position of supporting peace, rejecting war, and encouraging conflict resolution through diplomatic channels. “The achievement of this understanding is a positive development, not only for the two countries, but also for the stability of the Middle East region and broader global interests,” Amelia stated in Jakarta on Tuesday. She added that any step towards ceasing hostilities, protecting civilians, and guaranteeing freedom of navigation and the smooth flow of global energy is highly commendable. Moreover, stability in the Gulf region directly impacts supply chains, energy prices, international trade, and the economic situation of developing countries. “In global forums, Indonesia must continue to push for de-escalation, dialogue, and peaceful resolution,” she asserted. Previously, US President Donald Trump stated on Sunday (14/6) that a peace agreement between the US and Iran was “now complete”. The Strait of Hormuz is also set to reopen following the official signing of the agreement on Friday (19/6). “The deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete,” Trump wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social.
