DPR Member Says DSI Formation Could Impact National Economy
House of Representatives (DPR) member Nurdin Halid supports the government’s move to establish a state-owned enterprise (SOE) dedicated to managing strategic commodity exports.
He stated that the Natural Resource Export SOE is a new path for economic sovereignty and a strategy to strengthen downstreaming and industrialisation based on natural resources, boosting state revenue by preventing leakage of strategic commodity export value and securing foreign exchange.
‘The establishment of a strategic Natural Resource Export SOE must be framed within the Constitutional Economy provisions of Article 33, paragraphs 2 and 3. This policy is a continuation of the natural resource downstreaming programme, securing state foreign exchange, and preventing strategic commodity export value leakage. All of this embodies economic sovereignty for the maximum benefit of the people’s prosperity,’ Nurdin Halid said in a written statement on Saturday, 30 June 2026.
Nurdin emphasised President Prabowo Subianto’s statement in the DPR Plenary Session about forming a special SOE to handle the export of strategic commodities. The SOE is intended to address under-invoicing practices, which are suspected to have cost the nation Rp 15.4 trillion over 34 years.
According to Nurdin, PT DSI as a strategic Natural Resource Export SOE is a crucial step to strengthen Indonesia’s bargaining position in global markets, drive natural resource-based industrialisation to enhance national commodity value, improve export governance, and ensure natural wealth benefits the people to the greatest extent.
‘The formation of a special SOE for strategic natural resource management must be viewed in a broader context: the state’s effort to strengthen natural resource governance and improve the national export structure. This is part of the Government’s strategy under President Prabowo to realise economic sovereignty so that Indonesia’s natural wealth leads to social justice for all Indonesian citizens,’ Nurdin said.
Nurdin added that PT DSI, as a special export SOE, must act as an orchestrator, aggregator, and enhancer of the national export ecosystem. With this role, the SOE can unite production, financing, logistics, quality standardisation, downstreaming, and global market penetration.
With appropriate regulatory and institutional design, both state-owned and private companies in the natural resources sector will be encouraged to pursue natural resource downstreaming rather than merely exporting raw and semi-processed materials.
