DPR Member Requests Labour Bill Not Be Handed to Baleg, Must Remain in Commission IX
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Irma Suryani Chaniago, a member of Commission IX of the DPR, has reaffirmed her position as the leading sector in the discussion of the revision to Law Number 13 of 2003 on Labour.
Irma stated that her side has written to the DPR leadership requesting that the discussion of the Bill not be taken over by the Legislation Body (Baleg) of the DPR RI.
According to her, the understanding of the substance of labour matters lies with Commission IX, not Baleg.
Therefore, she assessed that the discussion of the Labour Bill should remain in the relevant commission to produce comprehensive and on-target regulations.
The NasDem Party politician emphasised that the Labour Bill must become fair legal product that does not have the potential to be tested again legally in the Constitutional Court (MK).
“This Bill must become a win-win solution for workers and entrepreneurs, without any party being disadvantaged,” Irma stressed.
Thus, she considered it inappropriate for Baleg to take over the legislative process that is already underway in her commission.
She assured that Commission IX of the DPR is ready to complete the discussion of the Labour Bill optimally, including examining various clauses and articles in depth.
“The aim is for the resulting regulation to truly be able to address the needs of the world of work in Indonesia and provide legal certainty for all parties,” Irma concluded.
She alluded to the experience of drafting the Job Creation Law, which previously received corrections from the Constitutional Court (MK).
According to Irma, that decision serves as an important lesson for the DPR to be more careful in drafting policies going forward.
“The DPR must not make the same mistake twice,” Irma said in her statement on Saturday (2/5/2026).
