JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - A member of Commission III of the House of Representatives, Safaruddin, has emphasised the need to strengthen the selection of judges to improve the quality of the judiciary in Indonesia.

According to him, this strengthening of judge selection can be regulated in the draft law (RUU) on Judicial Positions.

“Many inputs have been conveyed, this makes us more comprehensive in drafting the RUU on Judicial Positions. One thing that needs to be perfected is the judge selection system, especially regarding quality and integrity,” said Safaruddin during a general hearing meeting (RDPU) with several experts, quoted from the Youtube broadcast of TVR Parlemen, Tuesday (31/3/2026).

The reason is that he considers the aspect of judicial integrity to be very important, in addition to their technical ability in law.

“One thing that is still difficult for us to measure is how firm the heart and integrity of a judge is, including the ability not to be tempted by material things,” said Safaruddin.

He firmly stated that judges are figures who hold an important position in upholding law and justice in Indonesia.

“Judges are representatives of God in deciding cases. We want them to truly be able to deliver justice,” said Safaruddin.

Previously, Commission III of the House of Representatives had held a hearing meeting (RDP) with the House of Representatives Expertise Agency in the preparation of the RUU on Judicial Positions.

In that RDP, the Head of the House of Representatives Expertise Agency RI, Bayu Dwi Anggono, explained that there are eight issues to be regulated in the RUU on Judicial Positions.

“At the very least, there are eight sociological issues that indeed need to be addressed in this RUU,” said Bayu during the RDP, Wednesday (21/1/2026).

Second, the involvement of the Judicial Commission (KY) in recruiting judges other than supreme court judges is not in accordance with the Constitutional Court (MK) decision.

Third is the regulation related to judicial positions that are still scattered in various laws.
