DPR Member Pushes for Labour Bill to Address Regional Minimum Wage Disparities
JAKARTA - A member of Commission IX of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Netty Prasetiyani, is pushing for the Labour Bill (RUU Ketenagakerjaan) to formulate regulations capable of minimising disparities in minimum wages between regions. During a meeting of the Working Committee (Panja) for the Labour Bill under Commission IX of the DPR RI, Netty stated that there are currently extreme differences in minimum wage levels between one regency and another, for example in West Java. “If we look now at the City of Bekasi, Bekasi Regency, and Karawang Regency, they are already Rp 5.8 million–Rp 5.9 million, and so on. Imagine, Garut is Rp 2.4 (million), Majalengka Rp 2.3 (million), Banjar is similar. Yet they are all in the same province,” said Netty on Tuesday (14/4/2026). The meeting was attended by the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) and the Indonesian Employers Association (Apindo). She is concerned that if this wage disparity is not addressed soon, it will lead to social inequalities, unhealthy labour competition, and trigger large-scale business relocations. “Don’t let it happen that residents from Banjar or Kendal move to Karawang. Then the competition among residents will be extraordinary, or the businesses move to those areas,” she said.
