DPR Member Pushes for Establishment of Central Papua Immigration Regional Office
Timika (ANTARA) - Member of the House of Representatives Commission XIII Yan Permenas Mandenas is pushing for the establishment of a Regional Office (Kanwil) of the Directorate General of Immigration in Central Papua in Nabire to facilitate easier oversight of foreigners and bring immigration services closer to the local population.
Yan Permenas Mandenas in Timika on Saturday said that the Central Papua Province is a mining area involving many foreign workers (TKA), so the establishment of a Kanwil in the region must be carried out immediately.
“Central Papua is an autonomous region that we prioritise for the establishment of the Central Papua Immigration Kanwil,” Yan said after visiting the Mimika Class II Immigration Office.
He said he had also reported this plan to the Ministry of Immigration and Correctional Services (Kemenimipas).
“The request for the addition of this Kanwil is our priority. I will coordinate with the Ministry and the Directorate General (Dirjen) of Immigration next year to build the Kanwil Office in Nabire,” he stated.
Yan said the establishment of the new Kanwil would also help strengthen immigration in Central Papua and assist in disseminating immigration tasks and functions in overseeing foreigners.
Not only that, he added, but it would also help the community, especially in providing services for umrah and hajj activities.
Central Papua Police Chief Brigjen Pol Jeremias Rontini supports the plan to establish a Kanwil Immigration in Central Papua.
“I see the tasks carried out by my colleagues in Immigration as urgent. We need to enhance the function and role of immigration in Central Papua because this is a new autonomous region and there are an extraordinary number of foreign workers here,” he said.
“Personally, I give to my Immigration colleagues purely sincerely from me. I give it so that there is an improvement in Immigration performance,” he added.
Head of the Papua Directorate General of Immigration Regional Office Samuel Toba said the visit by House of Representatives Commission XIII Member Yan Permenas Mandenas and Central Papua Police Chief Brigjen Pol Jeremias Rontini to his office provides encouragement and reinforcement for immigration to improve immigration services in Central Papua, especially in Mimika.
He also supports the plan to establish the Kanwil and build the Central Papua Regional Kanwil Office in Nabire.
He expressed appreciation to the Central Papua Police Chief for being willing to donate his land to support the construction of the Central Papua Regional Kanwil Office in Nabire.
