JAKARTA - A member of Commission II of the House of Representatives, Deddy Yevri Hanteru Sitorus, has proposed that the government utilise the buildings already constructed in the Nusantara Capital (IKN). According to him, it would be wasteful if those buildings are not used, while their maintenance continues to drain the budget. “Please discuss this with the President and the ministers so that we can utilise them. It’s unfair to the people if the buildings stand idle and unused, with money being burned on maintenance,” Deddy stated during a working meeting with IKN Authority Head Basuki Hadimuljono at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Monday (30/3/2026). However, the buildings already constructed in Penajam Paser Utara Regency should naturally be utilised. “We’ve been saying this for a long time; it’s a 20-30 year programme like in other countries, not some Bandung Bondowoso project. Please think about it so we don’t keep draining the budget without utilisation; that’s not right in my opinion,” Deddy added. “Or the Vice President, as my friend from Gerindra has said. I’ve been asking for this for a long time. The Vice President, Minister of Forestry, Minister of Villages, Minister of Transmigration—why not move there? The people’s money built those buildings. Don’t get too comfortable in Jakarta,” Deddy remarked. In the meeting, Basuki revealed that the construction of the legislative complex or the RI House of Representatives building is one of the priorities for 2026. In addition to the legislative complex, the Supreme Court (MA) building along with its supporting facilities is also a construction priority this year. “This includes spatial planning and the construction of legislative and judicial office buildings, as well as supporting infrastructure, the development of vertical housing, accessibility and connectivity,” Basuki said. “The KIPP (Central Government Core Zone) itself spans 6,600 hectares,” Basuki explained. Other priority developments to be carried out include the construction of social superhub economies and IKN environmental management. “Forest and natural resource protection, disaster mitigation, and the development of sustainable agricultural areas to support food security in IKN,” Basuki stated.
