DPR Member Proposes 'Affection Booths' and Sex Aids for Female Inmates
Commission XIII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) has initiated the provision of family booths, or ‘affection booths’, as well as sex aids for married inmates within correctional institutions (lapas).
The Chairman of Commission XIII, Willy Aditya, requested that sex aids be provided for unmarried inmates who are in need. “As the Chairman of Commission XIII, I am asking the Regional Offices and Prison Heads to directly supervise the implementation of what we have initiated. First, affection booths for those who are married. Second, sex aids for those in need,” said Willy, as quoted from the official YouTube account of the Class IIA Bandung Women’s Prison on Wednesday (30/9).
Willy claimed that his office has discussed and initiated this idea in several prisons. “We in the DPR have held meetings and initiated this in several prison locations. What is it? First, family booths,” said Willy.
Willy explained that this initiative was taken because the correctional system aims to prepare inmates to return and reintegrate with society. Therefore, the presence of inmates in prisons should not be viewed solely as a form of imprisonment.
Furthermore, Willy stated that biological needs are one of the aspects that must be considered in the lives of inmates. “Why are we doing this? We are not just running a prison here. Remember, our concept is correctional rehabilitation, which is reintegration. We prepare ourselves to return to society and live normally. So, it is no longer about imprisonment; we are looking at it as a transition. We should view this as a halfway house,” Willy added.
