DPR Member: Prabowo's GovTech a Major Step Towards Modern Governance

Member of the House of Representatives Commission I, Nurul Arifin, stated that the plan to launch Government Technology (GovTech) nationally in October 2026, initiated under President Prabowo Subianto, is a major step towards modern digital governance. According to her, digital transformation of government is a strategic move to create a bureaucracy that is more efficient, transparent, and adaptive to developments in artificial intelligence (AI) technology. “The public needs fast, simple, transparent, and integrated public services. Technology must be a tool to improve the quality of state services to the people,” Nurul said in Jakarta on Wednesday. She noted that the application of AI in government can help accelerate administrative processes, improve the targeting of social assistance, enhance development planning, and strengthen oversight of state budget usage. “AI can help the government analyse very large amounts of data, which has been difficult to do manually. The impact is not only bureaucratic efficiency, but also better quality policy-making because it is supported by accurate data,” she said. On the other hand, she also reminded that the success of GovTech is not solely determined by technological sophistication. The biggest challenges lie in human resource readiness, inter-agency data integration, and cyber security protection. “Public trust is the main foundation of digital transformation. Therefore, strengthening cyber security and data governance must go hand in hand,” she said. She added that various countries have proven that GovTech can improve the quality of public services if built consistently. Estonia, for example, is known as a pioneer of digital government with almost all public services available online. “Indonesia certainly does not need to completely imitate other countries. We need to build a GovTech model that suits our national needs, the character of our society, and Indonesia’s geographical conditions,” she said. Previously, the Chair of the Government Digital Transformation Acceleration Committee, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, said President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to launch the national government digital transformation (GovTech) in October 2026. “The President will launch it nationally in October,” Luhut said after attending a meeting on accelerating the digitalisation of social assistance at the Ministry of Home Affairs headquarters in Jakarta on Tuesday. Luhut said the GovTech pilot project is currently underway in 43 districts/cities. The government is targeting to receive a report on the project’s implementation by the end of July 2026.
