DPR member fully backs President Prabowo’s plan to build fishing villages
A member of Commission IV of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Daniel Johan, fully supports President Prabowo Subianto’s plan to build fishing villages, saying the programme is awaited by coastal fishing communities.
Daniel said the priority programme outlined by President Prabowo in a DPR RI plenary meeting on Wednesday (20 May) is relevant to the interests of people across Indonesia. ‘We must push its realisation so that it does not stop at the symbolic inauguration of 1,386 fishing villages in 2026,’ Daniel Johan told reporters in Jakarta on Thursday.
He added that the government also needs to guarantee subsidised diesel for fishing boats. ‘We must ensure that the plan to build special diesel filling stations in fishing villages is supported by smooth diesel distribution.’
In addition, he supported the President’s effort to increase farmers’ purchasing power/value. ‘Farmers do not just need higher indices on paper; they need other supporting certainty: the affordability of fertilisers, price guarantees, and real market access,’ he said.
Earlier, President Prabowo, in his DPR plenary speech, addressed fishermen’s difficulties in obtaining ice and diesel for going to sea. Therefore, the government will intervene through the construction of 5,000 fishing villages in the next three years. This year, the government targets the inauguration of 1,386 fishing villages. The government will also build ice-making facilities, cold storage facilities, and special diesel filling stations for fishermen in every fishing village.
