Jakarta (ANTARA) - Member of the House of Representatives’ Commission III, Hinca I.P. Panjaitan, has entrusted the matter of imposing sanctions on the staff of the Karo District Prosecutor’s Office in North Sumatra to the Attorney General’s Office, in the wake of the legal proceedings against videographer Amsal Sitepu that have sparked controversy.

“We give them (the Attorney General’s Office) time to work. We leave it (the matter of sanctions) to them,” Hinca said at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Monday.

Hinca appreciated the Attorney General’s Office for directly responding to the issues involving the Karo District Prosecutor’s Office.

According to him, this response came about due to voices from the public and all parties involved.

He stated that the examination of the Karo District Prosecutor’s Office by the Attorney General’s Office serves as a lesson for all parties, not just the prosecution service. This is especially relevant now that the new Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP) has been implemented.

“This is our duty to oversee to ensure it is properly carried out. Once again, I appreciate the Attorney General’s Office and the North Sumatra Regional Attorney for responding to this,” he said.

Therefore, Hinca requested that all parties respect the process currently being undertaken by the Attorney General’s Office against several individuals from the Karo District Prosecutor’s Office.

“Let us give the Attorney General’s Office the opportunity to carry out its duties. I think yesterday’s discussion was very comprehensive. We should give them time to work,” he said.

Previously, the Attorney General’s Office examined the staff of the Karo District Prosecutor’s Office in North Sumatra, conducting clarifications and examinations, as a result of the handling of the Amsal Sitepu case that has generated controversy.

Head of Public Relations and Legal Information at the Attorney General’s Office, Anang Supriatna, stated that the prosecutors involved, starting from the Head of the Karo District Prosecutor’s Office, Danke Rajagukguk, the Head of the Special Crimes Section, to the public prosecutors, have been secured for the examination.

“On Saturday night (4/4), they were indeed secured by the Attorney General’s Office intelligence team,” Anang said in a statement in Jakarta on Sunday (5/4).
