DPR Member Emphasises That Eradicating Online Gambling Must Be a Priority for Law Enforcement
JAKARTA - A member of Commission III of the House of Representatives, Habib Aboe Bakar Alhabsyi, has commended the National Police for successfully uncovering an international online gambling (judol) operation in the Hayam Wuruk area of Jakarta.
According to him, the eradication of online gambling should indeed be one of the priorities for law enforcement agencies.
“We in Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives encourage every firm step by the National Police in eradicating online gambling. This must be a serious concern because online gambling has become one of the dominant causes of various social ills in society,” Aboe stated in his comments on Sunday (10/5/2026).
“I appreciate the success of the Bareskrim Polri team in uncovering the international online gambling operation in the Hayam Wuruk area and securing hundreds of foreign nationals suspected of involvement,” Aboe added.
He hopes that the exposure of this international network in Hayam Wuruk will serve as a momentum to strengthen oversight of cross-border illegal digital activities.
“We hope the National Police continues to strengthen coordination and surveillance of such international networks so that Indonesia is not used as a base for digital crime operations,” Aboe said.
The arrests were made at an operational location for online gambling in an office on Hayam Wuruk Street, West Jakarta.
“We found evidence of organised gambling activities involving foreign nationals from various countries,” said Director of General Criminal Affairs (Dirtipidum) of Bareskrim Polri, Brigadier General Pol. Wira Satya Triputra, during a press conference at the raid site in West Jakarta on Saturday (9/5/2026).
According to Wira, the foreign nationals were arrested while carrying out operational activities for online gambling sites.
Investigators discovered at least 75 domains and websites suspected of being used for gambling. These sites used specific character combinations to avoid blocking.
Police suspect the network is linked to an international syndicate and is run in a structured manner.
