DPR Member Demands Chemical Castration for Bandung Captor Taufik Hidayat

Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) member Abdullah has strongly condemned the abuse and captivity inflicted by Taufik Hidayat (30) on a woman identified as YTR (29) over a period of three years. Abdullah urged law enforcement officials to impose the maximum penalty of chemical castration on the perpetrator. “We give high appreciation to the West Java Regional Police for moving swiftly to arrest the perpetrator. This arrest must be followed by a firm and uncompromising legal process. This crime is not just ordinary abuse; it is an act that repeatedly deprived the victim of her freedom and destroyed her dignity over a long period. The perpetrator deserves to be castrated,” Abdullah said in a statement on Thursday (25/6/2026). Abdullah considered the punishment appropriate given the perpetrator’s alleged history of repeated violence, noting that the perpetrator’s former wife had also been a victim. “The fact that the perpetrator allegedly committed violence against his ex-wife shows a dangerous pattern of behaviour. Chemical castration is not only a form of punishment but also an effort to protect society, especially women, from the potential threat posed by the perpetrator in the future,” he continued. Abdullah also requested that the police open a complaint post, describing the step as important to facilitate any other victims who might wish to report. “This step is important to thoroughly investigate the perpetrator’s pattern of violence. If there are other victims who have not dared to speak out, the state must be present to provide full protection, both legally and through psychological assistance,” he concluded. Taufik Hidayat has been arrested and named a suspect in the case involving the sadistic abuse and captivity of his girlfriend, YTR (29), in Bandung, West Java. His flight ended in Majalaya after a police manhunt. Police are also investigating the possibility of other victims. West Java Police spokesperson, Commissioner Hendra Rochmawan, stated that they are monitoring social media posts from individuals claiming to have been victims of Taufik Hidayat. “We have received social media posts from parties claiming to be victims. We are open to anyone who feels they are a victim to report it,” he said. However, investigators have not yet received any official reports regarding the alleged other victims. The public can report to the Directorate of Women and Children Protection and Trafficking in Persons Eradication (PPA-PPO) of the West Java Police or the National Police call centre 110. Investigators are also still looking into the motive behind Taufik Hidayat’s actions in holding and abusing his ex-girlfriend YTR. The police have not yet been able to conclude the suspect’s motive as the investigation and evidence gathering are still ongoing.
