DPR Member: Cybersecurity Bill Ready for Public Testing to Gather Input

A member of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Syamsu Rizal Marzuki Ibrahim, has stated that the draft Cybersecurity and Resilience Bill (RUU KKS) is ready for public testing to gather input from various elements of society. “There will be a public test. This public test is carried out partially by DPR members together with the government to request or absorb input from various community groups or elements,” said Syamsu Rizal Marzuki Ibrahim, known as Deng Ical, in Jakarta on Monday. According to Ical, prior to the public testing, each member of Commission I is compiling reviews and notes on the bill’s material, which is continuously updated through discussions with the government. “This is updated almost constantly whenever we interact with fellow DPR members and the assigned ministries, and we want to continue perfecting it,” he said. “We have met with several experts to synchronise views, and it was conveyed that we are no longer anticipating war, but are already in a state of digital warfare,” he added. Therefore, Ical hopes the deliberation of the RUU KKS can be completed soon so that Indonesia has an adequate legal foundation to face threats in cyberspace. “We hope for comprehensive input from the public so that this law can provide stronger protection,” he said. The RUU KKS is currently still being discussed by Commission I through a series of meetings. On 30 June 2026, for instance, the commission held a public hearing with expert Pratama Persada from CISSReC and Ardi Sutedja from Indonesia Cyber Services to obtain input on the draft bill.
