DPR Member Condemns Alcoholic Beverage Promotion Using Quranic Verse

A member of the House of Representatives (DPR) Commission VIII, Maman Imanul Haq, has strongly condemned the promotion of Newport alcoholic beverages at a music festival in North Jakarta. The promotion sparked controversy because it involved a challenge to recite Surah Ad-Dhuha with a bottle of alcohol as the prize. Maman described the act as a despicable deed that insulted the sanctity of the Quran. “Such a promotion is not only unethical but also deeply hurts the feelings of Muslims and is a form of insult to the sanctity of the Quran,” he said in a statement on Tuesday, 11 August 2026. The PKB politician stressed that the freedom to be creative and conduct marketing must not ignore religious sensitivities. He urged the event organisers and the promotional team to immediately provide clarification and take responsibility for their actions. “This must serve as a lesson for all parties. Unethical promotional activities that violate religious norms must not be repeated just to chase public attention and virality,” he asserted.
