DPR Member Calls for Improved JKN Services to Maintain Public Trust
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Edy Wuryanto, a member of Commission IX of the House of Representatives (DPR), has called on BPJS Kesehatan to improve services under the National Health Insurance (JKN) programme to maintain public confidence in the scheme.
He said improvements should include strengthening the role of complaints desks in hospital lobbies so that patients facing administrative or service-related difficulties can receive prompt assistance.
“If patients encounter problems accessing care, there must be somewhere they can complain and get them resolved. Hospital complaints desks need to be strengthened so people are not left to deal with their problems on their own,” Edy said in a statement cited in Jakarta on Tuesday.
He made the remarks in response to concerns among the public about claims that the JKN programme would be scrapped.
In his view, improving service quality is an important part of ensuring the programme’s continuity.
Participants need not only health financing guarantees, he added, but also reliable information and assistance when they encounter difficulties accessing hospital services.
Edy also said hospitals should ensure that participants receive clear information and support when they have trouble accessing healthcare.
Alongside service improvements, he stressed that strengthening JKN also requires expanding active enrolment and maintaining the programme’s financial sustainability.
He urged the government to strengthen enrolment in the JKN Contribution Assistance scheme (PBI JKN), including by reviewing whether quotas are sufficient and whether recipients are being appropriately targeted, so that people in need continue to receive health protection.
BPJS Kesehatan previously said that social media claims about the agency being abolished were untrue, and that the National Health Insurance programme would continue under a strong legal framework as part of the national social security system.
“JKN is a state programme administered under a legal mandate. Information circulating on social media that BPJS Kesehatan is being abolished is untrue. The programme continues to operate, and our focus is on improving services,” said Rizzky Anugerah, head of public relations at BPJS Kesehatan.
