DPR Member: Asset Forfeiture Bill Could Be Finalised This Year

Hinca Pandjaitan, a member of the House of Representatives’ Commission III, is confident that the drafting of the Asset Forfeiture Bill can be completed in the near future. He said the legal affairs commission is currently gathering public aspirations through a series of public hearings.

“It’s nearly done (being deliberated); I think it will be finished this year,” Hinca said at the DPR complex in Jakarta on Monday, 13 July 2026.

The Democratic Party politician denied reports claiming that Parliament had rejected the drafting of the Asset Forfeiture Bill. He said that as of mid-July, deliberations on the regulation were still ongoing.

On Monday, 13 July 2026, Commission III of the House summoned academics, students and advocates to seek input on the drafting of the Asset Forfeiture Bill. “We are continuing to work on it at a marathon pace. If you don’t believe it, just follow along,” Hinca said.

Habiburokhman, Chair of Commission III of the House, said that 24 elements of society had already been asked for their views on asset forfeiture. He said that for the remainder of the current session, the commission would summon eight resource persons from community elements to give their perspectives on asset forfeiture.

The legal affairs commission does not want the drafting of the Asset Forfeiture Bill to be rushed. According to Habiburokhman, asset forfeiture rules have never previously existed in Indonesia.

For that reason, he said, it is only natural that the deliberation is being carried out gradually and at length. He noted that deliberations on the Asset Forfeiture Bill have already taken place over three House session periods.

“For other bills that are amendments, such as the Criminal Procedure Code and the revision of the National Police Law, which do not have many articles, we held public hearings for quite a long time — let alone this bill, which we are drafting from scratch,” said the Gerindra Party politician.
