DPR Member: Asset Forfeiture Bill Could Be Finalised This Year

Member of the DPR’s Commission III, Hinca Pandjaitan, is confident that the drafting of the Asset Forfeiture Bill can be completed in the near future. He stated that the legal commission is currently absorbing public aspirations through various public hearing meetings. “It is almost finished, I think it will be completed this year,” Hinca said at the DPR complex in Jakarta on Monday, 13 July 2026. The Democratic Party politician denied information suggesting that parliament had rejected the formation of the Asset Forfeiture Bill. He said that as of mid-July, discussions on the regulation were still ongoing. On Monday, 13 July 2026, Commission III summoned academics, students, and advocates to seek input regarding the bill’s formation. “We are continuously running a marathon on this. If you don’t believe it, just follow the process,” Hinca stated. Chairman of Commission III, Habiburokhman, said that 24 elements of society have already been consulted for their views on asset forfeiture. He added that in the remainder of the current sitting period, the commission will summon eight expert sources from the public to provide their perspectives. The legal commission does not want the formation of the Asset Forfeiture Bill to be rushed. Habiburokhman explained that this is because regulations regarding asset forfeiture have never previously existed in Indonesia. Therefore, he considers it reasonable for the deliberations to be conducted gradually and take time. He noted that the discussion of the Asset Forfeiture Bill has been carried out over three DPR sitting periods. “If other laws that are amendments, such as the Criminal Procedure Code or the revision of the National Police Law, which do not have many articles, are discussed for quite a long time in public hearings, especially a law that we are forming from scratch,” said the Gerindra Party politician.
