DPR member: Asset Forfeiture Bill commitment proves DPR is not turning a blind eye
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Member of Commission VI of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) Kawendra Lukistian said the DPR RI’s commitment regarding the deadline for passing the Bill on Asset Forfeiture is proof that the legislative body is not turning a blind eye to the people’s demands.
He said that the public is currently demanding stronger efforts to eradicate corruption and recover state assets. On the other hand, the commitment of the DPR leadership is a form of courage in taking responsibility.
“The public certainly wants to see concrete results. Therefore, the commitment that has been conveyed must be jointly monitored,” Kawendra said in Jakarta on Friday.
According to him, the commitment conveyed by the DPR RI leadership, particularly Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, to pass the Asset Forfeiture Bill by 15 December 2026 at the latest is not merely a political statement.
He also assessed that Dasco is a person who is always committed to completing things.
“Once he has conveyed a commitment, he will strive to ensure it proceeds and can be accounted for,” he said.
According to him, Dasco’s willingness to provide a clear deadline is a form of seriousness in overseeing the legislative process.
In addition, he said the deliberation of the Asset Forfeiture Bill must be carried out while maintaining attention to the quality of its substance as well as opening space for public participation.
“The most important thing is not only the time target, but how this law will truly be strong, fair, and able to become an effective instrument for recovering state assets derived from criminal acts,” he said.
Previously, the DPR RI leadership committed to passing the Asset Forfeiture Bill on 15 December 2026, which was conveyed when receiving an audience with representatives of demonstrators from the Pati United Community Alliance (AMPB).
The commitment was signed by Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad and witnessed by AMPB representatives, including Supriyono alias Mas Botok. Besides Dasco, Deputy Speakers Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal and Saan Mustopa were also present.
“There is already approval from the DPR leadership to commit to completing this law on time,” Dasco said at the Parliament Complex in Jakarta on Thursday (27/8).
Dasco also said that he is prepared to fulfil the AMPB’s demand to resign if the bill is not completed by 15 December. He said he is not worried because the DPR is indeed committed to completing the bill.
“There is no concern about fulfilling the demands of our friends. If it is not completed, then we will resign, that is not a problem,” he said.
