DPR Member Appreciates Government Commitment to Protecting Purchasing Power
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jamaludin Malik, a member of Commission XII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), has expressed appreciation for the government’s commitment to maintaining the prices of subsidised fuel (BBM) and LPG until 31 December 2026, as an effort to safeguard public purchasing power and national economic stability.
In a statement in Jakarta on Monday, Jamaludin noted that certainty in energy prices is a crucial factor in facing global economic uncertainty and fluctuations in world energy prices.
“The government’s commitment to maintaining the prices of subsidised fuel and LPG until the end of the year is the right step. Amidst global conditions that remain full of uncertainty, the public needs certainty so that purchasing power remains protected and economic activities can proceed smoothly,” said Jamaludin.
He assessed that this policy could help control inflation while providing certainty for business actors in conducting economic activities throughout the year. According to Jamaludin, energy price stability has a direct impact on various productive sectors, including micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), transport, fisheries, agriculture, and other sectors that drive the national economy.
Consequently, energy subsidy policies are still necessary as a social protection instrument for low-income communities and as a national economic buffer.
Jamaludin also highlighted the development of crude oil prices, which he believes provides room for the government to maintain domestic energy prices. He noted that the Indonesian Crude Price (ICP) in May 2026 was recorded at 106.56 US dollars per barrel, a decrease compared to the April 2026 ICP, which reached 117.31 US dollars per barrel.
In addition to maintaining the affordability of energy prices, Jamaludin urged the government to strengthen national energy security through increased oil and gas production, the accelerated development of new oil and gas fields, the strengthening of energy downstreaming programmes, and the development of new and renewable energy.
“Support for the community must go hand in hand with efforts to strengthen the national energy foundation. Therefore, increasing domestic energy production, improving energy sector governance, and accelerating investment must continue to be priorities to ensure national energy security becomes stronger,” he said.
As a working partner of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Commission XII of the DPR RI will continue to support energy policies oriented towards the interests of the public while maintaining economic stability and national energy security.
“The most important thing is how the community can continue to have access to affordable energy, the economy continues to move, and national development can proceed sustainably,” said the legislator from the Central Java II constituency.
