DPR Member and BNPB Strengthen Disaster Literacy in Batola

A member of House Commission VIII, Sandi Fitrian Noor, has collaborated with the Directorate of Disaster Management Systems of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) to strengthen disaster literacy in Barito Kuala Regency (Batola), South Kalimantan, in an effort to improve community preparedness for disasters. “We invite the public to use the knowledge gained from this disaster literacy socialisation as a foundation to become agents of change in their respective environments,” Sandi said in Marabahan on Sunday. He noted that Indonesia is a country located in a disaster-prone region, due to both its geographical location and the impacts of climate change. This is also the case in South Kalimantan, including Barito Kuala, which frequently experiences flooding during the rainy season and forest and land fires during the dry season. “Safety is not luck, but the result of thorough preparation,” he stated. He emphasised that House Commission VIII has a serious focus on disaster management, including continuing to push for strengthened disaster literacy through policies such as the revision of Law Number 24 of 2007 on Disaster Management and strengthening the role of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) in the regions. “We hope the community will be more prepared, resilient, and able to take the right steps when facing emergency or disaster situations,” he said.
