DPR Member Affirms Sexual Violence at Pati Islamic Boarding School Constitutes Human Rights Violation
JAKARTA - A member of the House of Representatives Commission XIII, Mafirion, has strongly condemned the sexual violence committed by personnel at an Islamic boarding school in Pati Regency, Central Java, against its female students. He asserted that the case of sexual violence is not merely a criminal act but a form of human rights violation. “We condemn this sexual crime. The state is obliged to be actively present. The roles of state institutions such as LPSK, Komnas HAM, Komnas Perempuan, and KPAI are crucial and cannot be delayed any longer,” Mafirion stated in his remarks on Wednesday (6/5/2026). Moreover, most of the victims are minors, which constitutes a serious violation of the constitution and the Child Protection Law. Therefore, he called on Komnas HAM, Komnas Perempuan, and the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) to conduct an independent investigation. “I demand that the state be present in a real, swift, and coordinated manner. As representatives of the people, we stand with the victims and demand that justice be upheld without compromise. Without active involvement from state institutions, the victims will continue to be in a vulnerable position,” Mafirion emphasised. Previously reported, the alleged molestation case against dozens of female students at one of the Islamic boarding schools in Pati Regency has advanced to the investigation stage. Pati Police Chief Commissioner Pol Jaka Wahyudi stated that a kiai named Ashari was designated as a suspect on 28 April 2026 following a case review. The case was actually reported as early as 2024, while the molestation of the victims is suspected to have occurred since 2020. Although already designated as a suspect, the perpetrator has not yet been detained because he is deemed cooperative during the examination process.
